ESWA 02075 824300 ESWA Related Documents About ESWA ESWA, Eletrisk Stral Varmer in the original Norwegian or Electric Radiant Heating in English, was started in the mid 1930’s and as ESWA Ltd in 1959 in the UK. ESWA Ltd has therefore been designing, supplying and installing electric radiant heating systems continuously for over 50 years in the UK. The company originally used flat sheet heating elements, mainly, for ceiling heating but also for underfloor heating. Later adding cables, and cable mats to complete a full product line up including advanced controls backed up by unrivalled experience and knowledge. Radiant heating systems have been around since ancient times when high status Roman buildings usually included a hypocaust heating system in the walls and the floor. Modern technology and materials enable the same levels of comfort to be available to everyone. An electric radiant heating system works by using the floor or ceiling as a low temperature large surface area heater. This allows it to gently warm the surfaces of the room, and then the air within the room, using primarily radiant heat rather than heating the air directly like some other heating systems. This gentle warmth does not affect the quality of the air and it does not change its humidity levels. The radiant effect and the distributed nature of the system also provide superior heat distribution, both vertically and horizontally. This all round, gentle, natural, radiant heat provides superior levels of comfort at a lower air temperature as can be shown by the difference in apparent temperature between standing in the sun or the shade on a cool spring day. The old fashioned “radiator” systems actually work by convection, pulling cold air down and across the room and heating it as it passes across the heated “radiator” surface. The hot air then rises to the top of the room where it falls as it cools to repeat the cycle. This convection cycle results in cold air falling, giving colder air at the floor than at head level. This however is not the only problem associated with old fashioned heating systems, the high surface temperatures required to heat a space from such a small surface area as a standard “radiator” means that any dust in the air is carbonized, resulting in the black smudges we all know above the “radiator”. The air is also dried as a consequence of passing over a surface often at over 60oC in contrast to 20 oC that would be a normal room temperature. Another effect of the convection cycle is to create draughts, spreading dust and allergens around the building. Modern floor heating systems, and other low temperature radiant heating systems, by contrast use a large surface area at a low temperature. This warms you and the building in a far more natural and comfortable way. The typical operating temperature will only be a few degrees above the air temperature desired by the occupant of a room. This produces a far more even heat distribution throughout the room, both vertically and horizontally (see fig ..). The nature of the system also eliminates the problems of carbonized dust and dry air and of course there are virtually no convection currents with the problems they can cause. This all adds up to produce a much more comfortable and natural environment. ESWA has provided the heating to many thousands of buildings of all types from churches, through schools, hotels and offices to nursing homes and private dwellings as both new build projects and refurbishments for developers and individuals. ESWA can design you a heating system that is controllable, comfortable, clean, efficient and maintenance-free without occupying useful, and valuable, space giving absolute freedom for decorating and furniture layouts. Depending on the construction of the building, and the desired performance of the heating system, we have a solution to suit your needs. We provide 3 main types of system: Underfloor Heating: Storage heating with cables in a thicker concrete layer “Direct acting” with cables in a thinner concrete layer Direct acting with a flat sheet foil between joists under a timber floor Ceiling Heating, either as a standalone direct acting system or in combination with storage underfloor heating. Millimat and Milliclick thin floor solutions, underfloor heating underneath tiles, parquet or laminate floors. Our experienced team are happy to help with your enquiry.
